Note: Please make sure that your phone has the latest version of WhatsApp (2.20.206.5) or above.
How to Set Up Whatsapp Payment Service in India?
Note: As on 07.11.2020, this feature has not been effective. It will be available for all the user in a few days. We will be updating you once it is ready.
So, follow below steps:
- First of all open Whatsapp on your phone.
- Go to Menu (three vertical dots on the top right corner)
- Click on Payments.
- Next, click on Add New Payment Method. Click on Accept and Continue to proceed.
- So, now choose your bank from the list.
Note: Make sure that your Whatspp number is registered with the bank account you are linking. Else you will not be able to use.
- Next, you need to verify your phone number.
- Click on Verify via SMS for authentication.
- Now, click on Allow so that Whatsapp verify your SIM card is registered with the bank account.
- Again click on Allow to send a text message.
- After that, Whatsapp will show all the accounts linked with your phone number.
- Select any account of your choice to finish setting up. Click on Done to complete Whatsapp Pay set up.
- Finally, you can see Payment Method listed in the payment page.

How to Set Up UPI in Whatsapp for Sending Money? | Verify Debit Card in Whatsapp Pay
So, follow below steps:
- First of all open the chat whom you would like to send money. Tap Attach (clip icon) and then Payment.
- Tap Continue to verify your ATM/Debit Card information. Note: This step is must for continuing payment.
- Enter the last 6-digits of your debit/ATM card number and expiry date. Click on Done and click on Set Up UPI PIN.
- Next, you will receive OTP on your registered mobile number. Enter the OTP if not auto filled.
- Create a UPI (Unified Payment Interface) PIN of your choice and enter it under SETUP UPI PIN and click on Submit.
- Once UPI Setup is complete, tap Done.
- Finally done. You can use below steps transfer money to your loved ones.

How to Transfer Money via Whatsapp Pay?
It is very simple and easy. It is as easy as you can send and receive money through PhonePe or Paytm.
So, go through the below steps to know in details:
- First of all select the contact to which you want to transfer.
- So, your chat/conversation page will open. Select Clip icon through which you also send images/videos etc.
- Choose Payment option and select the amount to send. You can also add a note just for remarks. (It is optional)
- Next, enter the UPI PIN to continue.
- Done. You can now see a confirmation message in the chat.
How to Request Money Using UPI ID or QR Code?
To request money, follow below steps:
- First of all click on More Options (three vertical dots)
- Next, tap on Settings>Payments>Payments Setting>New Payment.
- Select To UPI ID or Scan QR Code. If you selected the UPI ID option, enter the UPI ID. If you have selected the QR Code option, scan the QR code.
- Now, tap on Request Money.
- Enter the requested amount and tap the Arrow icon.
Note: When the payment request is successful, it will be listed under Payment requests sent.
Download Latest Whatsapp Pay App
There is no any separate app for it. Whatsapp you are using presently has the feature in built in it. You just need to update by visiting Play Store.
Delete/Remove Bank Accounts from PhonePe
Payment Option Not Available on My Whatsapp
No need to worry. Just go to Playstore and search Whatsapp on the search box. Click on Update if you already have Whatsapp or Install if for the first time.
If you are still not able to find Payment option then wait for few days. It will available for all the android and iOS users in a few weeks.

How to Check Whatsapp Version?
So, follow below steps:
- First of all open Whatsapp on your phone.
- Go to Menu (three vertical dots on the top right corner)
- Click on Settings and then select Help.
- So, click on App info.
- It will show your Whatsapp messenger version. It must be (2.20.206.5) or above.
I am not able to add bank account?
Please ensure below points:
- Your WhatsApp number and the phone number linked to your bank account is the same.
- You selected the correct bank while linking.
- You SIM is able to send and receive SMS.
- Your phone must have an active Internet connection.
- If you have a joint or NRI (Non-Resident Indian) account, it may not be supported. For more details, contact your bank for more information.
I am not able to send money?
You won’t be able to send money if your contact doesn’t have payments enabled.
Ask your friends and relatives to follow above steps. You can also share this post to them.
You’ll see the following pop-up message when trying to send them money:
“To receive a payment, [contact name] needs to set up payments in WhatsApp by tapping Settings > Payments“
Money deducted but not received by user?
If a payment wasn’t completed, the app will notify you. Your bank should process a refund in up to 4 business days. Please check your bank account to check the status.
In some cases, you may need to contact support from within the app. To contact support, tap the payment message > Help.
