Common Mistakes made which should be avoided while applying for a PAN Card
To eliminate the risk of tax evasions, PAN Card is a vital document which is also used as an identity proof, to monitor the financial transactions of every individual whether taxable or not. Any Individual, HUF, Companies, Corporations, Individuals and HUFs (NRIs), Companies and corporations which have offices abroad can apply for PAN Card and fill in necessary details to avoid corrections or changes. PAN Card has a lifetime validity and does not need renewals.
In case of any mistake made a correction also need to be made immediately otherwise a wrong PAN Card will not be recognised in taxation records thus making it invalid as an identity proof as well. To make corrections there is a fee which is approximately Rs. 110 for issuing the PAN Card within India and approximately around Rs. 1020 if the address of correspondence is outside India.
Below are some of the Pan Card mistakes you should avoid
Incorrect Signature
A signature is required across the photograph and one at the bottom of the form. The applicant needs to make sure that the signature should be the official signature and nothing more should be added. The applicant needs to make sure that the signature that he uses while applying for the PAN card is the same that he uses on his banking and financial documents. To validate taxation records and for verification purposes there should be no mismatch in both the signatures.
Using Blue Ink which should be avoided
Normally it is recommended to use a black pen while filling the form, many accept blue ink also but this needs to be checked and to be on a safer side, one must always use a black pen to fill the official form. There have been some cases of PAN card application which have been rejected due to the colour of the pen which was used for filling the form.
Using initials which again should be avoided
Instead of putting the full name many use just the initials which can result in the wrong name imprinted which can be unacceptable later. The applicant must avoid using initials and fill in the full details of his name, organisation and other mandatory details required.
Incorrect Name
Many people make this common mistake of putting initials instead of the complete name or making spelling mistakes which would need to be corrected later as this may create a hassle in taxation and other financial transactions. Sometimes there could also be a spelling mistake in the name which surely must be avoided as this may invalidate the wrong name PAN card as an identity proof since there is a different name on it.
Incorrect Communication details
One must double check important details like correspondence and permanent address, pin code, phone number, email and other proofs to avoid correction issues later
Additional Proof that is required may contain inappropriate details
Additional proof that is attached should be verified for corrections in it and it should contain the same vitals that have been specified in the form. For example as an additional proof the applicant is attaching his Voter ID card, license or Aadhar card. He needs to check carefully that the details mentioned in the form purely match with the details of the proof attached to avoid discrepancy and rejection.
Mistakes while sending the photographs of the applicant
Many applicants make the mistake of sending a scanned or an unclear picture which is later either rejected or can create problems. Also a physical picture should be glued instead of stapled or pinned to the document. The sent picture of the applicant should be clear, not scanned and a passport size photograph is suggested.
